When I met Hutson a couple of years ago, the summer before he graduated from Brentwood High School, I was unprepared for the level of talent I would witness during his senior photos. But what an amazing surprise! Hudson, his mom, and I had created a plan that included capturing all the aspects of his life that were meaningful to him during senior year. Music was at the top of his list.
In Hutson’s case, his passion was the piano. So his mom arranged for us to meet at the home of a family friend to photograph Hutson playing this beautiful Wm. Knabe & Co. baby grand piano. When I explained that the photographs would be more authentic if he actually played while I shot, Hutson didn’t hesitate. He soon lost himself in a serious concerto, paying little attention to me or the camera. His talent was jaw-dropping. In fact, I had a hard time staying focused because all I wanted to do was listen.
The moments we captured in his senior photos were serene, serious, and heartfelt. I decided to break away from my usual editing style and applied a softer, moodier black-and-white treatment for this series.
Creating custom senior portrait sessions is always a delight. It allows for creative latitude to document both the who and the why of a subject’s story.
Have a senior moving forward toward graduation? Let’s explore his or her passions and create a custom senior photo session that captures more than just a nice smile, but the true essence of who they are.
