Nashville Elopement: Love and Sasquatch

Ok, so a blog about love makes sense, right? But Sasquatch?

Yeah, I did a double take, too.

Aerry and Arthur make have come from very different backgrounds, but when they connected two years ago on Christian Mingle, the fire began to build. And it turns out their quirky interests truly matched up.

Their relationship kindled over the next few weeks via text, but within a month, they knew it was time to meet in person. They arranged to find each other at a Memphis BBQ restaurant in January 2020. When they sat down to dinner… it wasn’t what either of them expected.

“Our first date was a little awkward at first because neither of us were taking much and we each took that to mean that neither of us liked the other,” Aerry laughingly recounts. Pretty soon though, she says, they started to open up more to each other. What broke the ice? “We played Two Truths and a Lie, which allowed us to learn about each other’s personalities and preferences more, Aerry says.

Getting to know you…

As with many of my elopement clients, I learned about Aerry and Arthur’s love story by way of a questionnaire I send to my couples shortly before their elopement ceremony. I’m always delighted to get to know them beforehand. And it helps with having casual, fun conversation while we’re taking photos after their “I Do’s.”

Which is how I came to learn that this couple finds Sasquatch pretty intriguing. In fact, one of the things they love to do together in their free time is watch television shows about, you guessed, Sasquatch.

I knew I’d have to find a way to bring this (let’s be honest) unusual interest up during our photo session. So as we were walking through the woods, I seized the moment. “Look over there, is that Bigfoot?” I teasingly asked, pointing deep into the trees.

Aerry laughed immediately, but Arthur looked at me directly and said in all seriousness, “Bigfoot is nothing to joke about!” But then he winked, squeezed Aerry, and started chuckling as well. I’m guessing this might be the first and last time Bigfoot comes up during an elopement session, haha!

Outdoor lover’s delight

The day could not have been more beautiful for Aerry and Arthur at Butterfly Hollow, a bed and breakfast about 45 minutes east of Nashville. Some of the flowers were beginning to bloom, the weather was sunny and brisk, and we had fun hiking around new parts of the property.

As I photographed their elopement, it was incredibly apparent that the love shared by this couple was deep and true. Arthur endearingly kissed his sweetheart’s hand and simply melted into her whenever they embraced. Love like this is deeply touching. My heart fills with joy each time I can capture such emotions with my camera.
