Nashville Yoga: Whitney, A Beautiful Soul

Recently I had the chance to step into my passion zone by photographing a beautiful soul and Nashville yoga teacher, Whitney Korman.

I’ve been a student of Whitney’s for a couple of years now, and can’t say enough about her impact on me as a student. From the first practice, I fell in love with her sweet, soothing style, and her deep sense of spiritual connection. I connected with her heartfelt, soul-stirring teachings immediately, and I continue to look forward to each new class she offers.

Whitney and I recently collaborated to create some beautiful yoga portraits for her website and profile, a project I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time. I was full of concepts to capture her personality and the sweet essence of her heart. Honestly, the time just flew by. After about three hours, I felt we hadn’t even scratched the surface. As I began editing these images, so many more ideas sprang to mind! I now realize that this is what happens when you follow your heart and do something fresh and new. As a yoga photographer, and as a yoga teacher and student, this session allowed me to stretch my wings in so many different ways.

Form and light

In this post, I’ll share a series of silhouettes, which were just one portion of our portrait branding session. These striking black-and-whites are among my favorites from this first session. This is because these images remind me of my roots in film photography and the power of communicating simply in form and light. As a bonus, Whitney’s lovely studio had just the right texture of natural light. With this soft diffused, light, we could create these beautiful images, each of which perfectly displays her grace and talent.

Following my heart

This year I’m beginning to focus more on artistic branding and portraiture. And in doing so, I feel as if I’ve found my heart’s purpose. I want to collaborate with small business entrepreneurs, artists, and especially yoga and wellness professionals such as Whitney. Deep down, I feel certain that telling their stories will help to plant seeds for more connectedness in our communities.

In my heart, I believe are all in this together. So it just makes sense to get to know each other and celebrate the gifts we each have to share. We each have a beautiful story to tell. Namaste.
