Last week, just as signs of spring emerged, I met Sheric and her fiance Noah to shoot a creative engagement session near some Nashville murals. The morning air was pretty nippy! But that didn’t stop us from sharing plenty of smiles and giggles along the way.
Sheric and Noah, both seniors at Lipscomb University, are currently on a well-deserved spring break in their home state of Missouri. But before they left, they decided on a last-minute engagement session! I was so delighted when they called. I’ve been itching for weeks to get back out and shoot! So I was definitely pumped when I heard their vision for a fun and funky engagement session!
Sheric knew exactly where she wanted us to shoot. “Let’s meet at the Google Fiber Mural on Woodland Street,” she said, “It’s my favorite!” While I have seen a lot of murals around town, I hadn’t been to that particular spot myself. But as soon as I looked it up, I knew the session vibe would be upbeat and energetic.
Anyone who has wandered around Music City recently knows that murals are a part of the fabric of the city. There are mural tours, mural blogs, and mural junkies who love to visit new ones as they arise. Some are independent and some have corporate sponsors. Google Fiber partnered with several artists to underwrite three such murals. This one on Woodland Street in East Nashville set a mundane, gray wall ablaze with color. Artist Nathan Brown had the vision for the project, which completely transformed the corner address for Five Points Pizza. (If you’d like to see how one of these murals goes up, take a peek at this cool video from Brown’s website: Google Fiber mural project. )
Sheric and Noah and I had so much fun trying out new, creative poses, poking around corners for new ideas, and pretty much laughing the entire morning. These photos show not only how much fun we had but also that these two only have eyes for each other! They are planning a wedding next year in Raleigh where Noah has accepted a job after graduation.
Engagement session do’s (and don’ts)
This couple had the right idea when we got together… just hang on to each other and have fun! Of course, nearly every single engaged couple believes they are “awkward” in front of the camera. I hear it nearly every time! But within a few minutes, the natural chemistry takes over, and honestly, that’s what I am waiting for–not the picture perfect pose! So if you are considering a session of any type, just remember that it may sound cliche, but your smile is all you really need.
These pictures of this Nashville mural engagement session tell the story. It may have been cold, but warm hearts and smiles made the day feel sunny all over. Congrats Sheric and Noah and I hope spring break was a blast!
